Three Reasons Michelle Obama Wore Alaia to the State of the Union

If you have paid attention to Michelle Obama’s sartorial choices during Barack’s presidency, you would quickly realize that she has always supported her fellow Americans.  From the inaugural Jason Wu to Tracy Reese and J. Crew, Michelle has declared her affinity for the homegrown.  Yet, Michelle wore a metallic forest green fit and flare dress and matching cropped bolero jacket by Tunisia-born, Paris-based Azzedine Alaia to this year's State of the Union address.  Thus, her departure from the domestic to the foreign must mean something greater....

1. Say the Rorschach test used colors instead of random inkblots.  Green would certainly prompt thoughts of money.  Money leads to thoughts about the economy.  Michelle could only be telling us that we must raise the minimum wage and that the economy is on the rise.

2. If I've learned anything from Econ 1, it's that free trade is good unless you're apartheid South Africa in which an international trade embargo is necessary to smack some sense into you.  Not wearing an American designer…could it possibly be a signal to Barack to reenter talks about a European Union free trade agreement?
3. Better yet, Mobama is really like you and I.  She secretly loves Clueless, particularly the line in which Cher tells the man trying to mug her that she, in fact can’t get on the ground because, “You don’t understand.  This is an Alaia.  It’s like a totally important designer.”
